do you let go and never look back...or do you cling to the past ?now i am generalising here...obviously when things happen we have to go through the normal process of sifting and sorting until it makes some kind of sense....but when you get to that point are you able to let go???

Some things just stick. Subconsciously i have eyes in the back of my head in that situation. I can still see things clearly from the past. Those bad thoughts are here to stay - for me anyway.

It depends. I am getting much better at letting go of the past than I was but there are still times when I cling on to situations, memories or feelings.

Guys were my real weakness and clinging onto the possibility that they would turn around and declare their undying love for me having seemed so keen before rather than messing me around... it didn't happen! But now I am much better at living in the present and leaving the past where is should be- in the past. I'm happier for doing so.

That said I think you can only let go of something when you are ready to. My advice- at least be in touch with what needs to be laid to rest and then be willing to let it go when you can.

I have OCD and am going to be seeing a counsellor as I do hold onto things and I do know it is not healthy. I move on but there is always a little part of me left there in the past and a little bit of that past stays with me, even the things that are better off forgotten.

There are something and some people you have to let go off to be successful and get somewhere in life. Plus there is the BIG question of WHAT IF THINGS WERE DIFFERENT ?,COULD IT HAVE WORKED?
Especially when thinks are not going to well for you at present.
I sometimes i do wonder but then I'm thankful for what i have now.

I think hanging on to something is unhealthy. If it's bad for me, then I shouldn't be doing it. So I let go. I think you should learn from the past and never forget your past, but you should never hold on to a grudge. It's not good for your health.

Something that was so negative in your past should not have so much control of your life in the present.

Great question and simple to answer: YES. The older we get the wiser we become, well for most of us. Life is too precious to cling on to a hopeless situation. Plus it gives you wrinkles and lets face it for sure we don't want that....

If you can look back and say 'yes, I've learnt from it' or 'that time was great but there'll be more great times to come' then yes you're ready to let go. remember memories are always there to look back to if we need them!
