A pentagram is a five pointed star. A pentacle is a pentagram inscribed inside a circle. The Pentacle and pentagrams have been mystical symbols that predate Christianity. In modern times this symbol is used on the stars of the US flag and in the geometry of Washington DC. It is a minor symbol in FreeMasonry and more established symbol in the Wiccan Church which also has roots going back before Christianity. In the second half of the 1800's the pentagram became loosely associated with Satanic or Demonic worship.

In spite of associations between the Pentagram and Satan worship the Wiccan church still uses the symbol, presumably because they have been using it for at least two millenia longer. The use of the Pentacle by Wiccans is well established unlike for example the invented link between Druids and Stonehenge. In reality, Stonehenge predates the Druids.

A pentagram (sometimes known as pentalpha or pentangle) is the shape of a five-pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. The word pentagram comes from the Greek word πεντάγραμμον (pentagrammon), a noun form of πεντάγραμμος (pentagrammos) or πεντέγραμμος (pentegrammos), a word meaning roughly "five-lined" or "five lines".

Pentagrams were used symbolically in ancient Greece and Babylonia. The Pentagram has magical associations, and many people who practice neopagan faiths wear jewelry incorporating the symbol. Christians once more commonly used the pentagram to represent the five wounds of Jesus[1][2], and it also has associations within Freemasonry.

The word "pentacle" is sometimes used synonymously with "pentagram", although their technical usages are different, and their etymologies may be unrelated.[

A pentacle or pantacle is an amulet used in magical evocation, generally made of parchment, paper or metal (although it can be of other materials), on which the symbol of a spirit or energy being evoked is drawn. It is often worn around the neck, or placed within the triangle of evocation. When they incorporated star-shaped figures, these were more often hexagrams than pentagrams. Protective symbols may also be included (sometimes on the reverse), a common one being the five-point Seal of Solomon. Many varieties of pentacle can be found in the grimoires of Solomonic magic; they are also used in some neopagan magical traditions, such as Wicca.

Owing to their similarity, the words pentacle and pentagram (a five-point unicursal star) are sometimes confused, although their etymologies are different. Adding to this confusion, in modern Tarot decks and in some forms of modern witchcraft, pentacles often prominently incorporate a pentagram in their design.

One doesn't have a circle? As far as I know they
both are the same, except the pentacle is a talisman,
that can be carried around as a ward.
While the pentagram can be drawn on the ground or other things as a ward.
Personally, I din't use these props. Just drawing the
Star, (sign of humanty), in the air with your finger
creates a ward. What will "magicians" do in time of
spiritual trouble without their toys?

The pentagram is the symbol of the star and circle, the pentacle is the actual object or disc the pentagram is printed or engraved on.

It's just a geometric shape. What symbolic meaning to associate with it is your own business.
