peer pressure. Guys think if they are still virgins that their buddies will think less of them....and they are right. They are put down, called names, and pushed into uncomfortable situations. My brother is 45 and still a virgin. He isn't very handsome and he is shy. My uncles get on him all the time about being a virgin. They have tried to get him to go to the "house of ill repute", but he won't go. He either chooses to stay a virgin or he is to shy to go find a girlfriend.

im 20 and im a virgin, i have tried damn hard to get girls that I really like and was always left heart - broken. I guess thats the way life works man, but you know what dont let sex control you or have ur friends pressure you. I know how it feels when someone ask if ur a virgin, but hell tell that truth, tell em you are lol **** it. IM A VIRGIN, make the girls know ur holdin it out for someone special, married or not man.
Also it depends on what path you took in life that makes u still a virgin. Stayed away from drugs, nasty lookin girls + Drinking, those usually lead to Sex. So if you havent done any of those your on the right path.

For a start.......some men would never consider visiting a hooker. I never have and never will. Not because I condemn or judge those that do, but simply because if I weren't in a serious relationship, I still prefer the dating process and see physical intimacy as a part of the procedure.
Secondly, it used to be a custom that, when coming of age, a boy's father would take him to a local, reputable bordello so that his son could lose his virginity and thus be able to "perform" adequately on his wedding night. It is an out of date custom, one that has been bastardised in modern times but it still stands.

I totally agree with you, it is something precious to be "given" when and to whom the individual feels close and connected with. Unfortunately today’s compromised generation have many things back to front with the pressures placed upon young men (and women), they are “made” to feel like they are “slow” or “abnormal” to be a virgin past the age of 13-14! I believe that a young man/women with a healthy self esteem would feel less pressure and not cave in to this false belief.

virginity should be prized because its not all persons that can keep theirs so i dont see the need why he should be ashamed of it. Besides as you said it would be far better to lose it to the one you love than to a stranger - a prostitute. It should be a special moment between the two lovers, to me his excuse just dont fit!

It's about the ego and peer pressure or he could be lying. Guys talk about sex a lot when they're together. My guy told me about how they share 'experiences' with each other and some feel left out when they've got no details to share so they ring up a prostitute for their first time. I agree it's totally better to lose it to someone you love and trust. I'm sure there's some regret there when they've realized they've found someone they love. Maybe he regrets it now? :)

Some men have a very low self confidence abuot sexual things. They need something to quench their desire for sex and sometimes is unsure about losing his virginity to a lover for lack of, to be blunt, talent. They don't want you to know how really horrible they are in the sack.

Hold it just a minute sweety: your stereotyping your boyfriend with all us men. I wouldn't do that. We're not at all the same. I lost mine in high school along with most of the guys in my class, along with a lot of girls in the same class.
Now, where these people your speaking about are coming from, I sure don't know, maybe I spent to much time back on the farm.

Nothing but peer pressure. These days a man is expected to lose it in his teens and because of the immaturity of others, is laughed at if he hasn't.
Just another sign of our warped society.
