Most of the pastors I know earn a living the same way most people earn money (If that is what you mean). A lot of it has to do with the fact that our communities are very small and there is no way a congregation could support them. But in some place there are churches big enough to do this provide a living and housing.

I know a couple of pastors that have an apartment attached to the church so that their cost of living expenses are not to high but it really doesn't work well in situations like those for pastors that had families.

Other than that it's earn your keep the same as John down the road. It's a little sad in some cases because many Pastors would love to have the extra time to be available to counsel people, do good works and other needed prep. time. But that's what I know anyway.

I think in some organized churches they get paid a salary from the Church's' funds, in other smaller churches they live of the tiding members give. Tidings is 10% of your income. However pastors have to give tiding too. Also member donations and gifts. In any case, they have faith that God will provide for all of their needs.

In our Church he's part of the budget, approved every year by the congregation. He also has a housing allowance. His pay comes directly from the offerings of the congregation. His salary is quite modest, even with the housing allowance.

for the true religion.

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
