I've never heard of a "Personal Breath Test." However, I have heard of a Preliminary Breath Test. The State of Tennessee does not use them because there have been questions raised regarding Fourth and Fifth Amendment issues. From what I've read, the PBT is used to help establish probable cause. A lot of agencies will have portable (and less reliable) machines that they can use out in the field. If you fail the PBT, they will procede with a formal DUI investigation, which typically involves being transported to a police station for a more accurate breathalyzer reading, as well as video taped field sobriety testing.

a PBT is a preliminary breath test. It's a field test to get used to estimate the blood alcohol content of a DUI suspect. Here it the results of the test can't be used against the suspect in trial.

You mean Preliminary Breath Test The officer has to calibrate the machine and have you blow into it. It is used if the officer suspects that you are driving under th4e influence of alcohol if the reading is positive you will be given a blood test to confirm the results
