if she had the Chicken Pox as a child? My partner recently went through 5 weeks of chemo and radiation followed by surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in her lung. (Upper lobe removed from right lung and lymph nodes in chest) My nephew now has the Chicken Pox and we need to know if being around him for Christmas is going to be a threat. Please, only serious answers as this could potentially be a life or death situation. Also, because her immune system is down, could she potentially catch them again? I had them as an adult but need to know if I can still be a carrier if I am exposed to it. Thanks!

You really want a definitive answer to this question, so phone her doctor!!! Most of the people on here are well intentioned, but I have see a lot of bogus, possibly harmful, advice from well meaning people. Have a happy holiday season.

No. If it has been 5 weeks ago, his white blood cells have recovered by now. Besides, it is more of the bacterial infections that he is susceptible too. Plus, he probably has been exposed to varicella as a child already. Immunity to this is lifelong. Also, the shedding period of this virus is peaked when the blisters start to develop and it has already been going on for some time in your nephew. With all these reasons, there will be no problem at all.

I think your question is serious enough to warrant a call to her doctor. With her weakened immune system from chemo and radiation, I don`t think she should take a chance exposing herself to further complications. Good luck and enjoy the holidays, but do call the doctor.

Yes. Chicken pox can occur again. The treatment will have depressed her immunity, and chicken pox could be life -threatening for her.

It is no longer contagious, As long as the sores are not leaking and he has no more fever, everyone should be fine. Ask a professional, Not fellow yahooers. Good Luck
