Our purchasing manager is taking home all the good Christmas loot vendors are sending to our office. She said that since they come addressed to her (the only name they have as a contact with our company) they are a perk of her job. I say they are meant for the whole company. She leaves the crappy stuff on the table but good stuff goes straight to her car. Who's right?

Your Purchasing Manager is "small souled". She is actually just the facilitator of the vendors loot and should be sharing with everyone. She may not be in hot water legally, but she is in hot water morally which will not be worth the loss of respect she will receive from her office workers.

Most companies would not allow this practice of employees receiving gifts from vendors. Especially for a purchasing manager. Its a major breach of ethics that an agent of the company to receive payment (and that's what gifts are) from its vendors.

The perks of her (or any employee) job are specifically itemized in her job description, and I doubt seriously "swag" from vendors are included. Her management skills are also called into question if her bevaior causes tension in the office (as clearly it does).

You can't do anything about this practice this Christmas, but once in the new year this policy needs to be clarified by the company. She is getting away with it because the company is unaware of it or gives tacit approval. If its the latter, then you'll just have to accept it. But it does need to be addressed soon.

If change happens, don't expect to share the loot, expect the loot to be returned, or given to charity and the crappy stuff being left for the office to use in the office.

The "loot" SHOULD be left at the office and shared by all. But since she's a manager, it's probably not your place to address the situation with her. Perhaps her supervisor will speak to her.

As a manager, I do recieve gifts from some of my best accounts. However, I believe that the employess deserve them more than I . I was taught to share. I have taken the basket in which the fruit came in! Or the candy basket. It is my way of sharing during the holidays. Your manager is just selfish and not thinking of what the it all means. Giving instead of recieving! Bah to her!

Selfish. Selfish. Selfish. I wouldn't be surprised if she was "re-gifting" the loot too. It's really not worth going over her head to a higher up....but maybe her boss should get an anonymous note about it. Some people are just greedy b*st*rds!

She's got the right to do that, and you and your co-workers have the right all next year to behave towards her as if she really is a selfish b-itch who doesn't give a damn for anybody else. The first time that she tries to convince you any differently, remind her. All together.

Remember, she had the right to choose what to do, and she chose. You have the right to choose what to do, too.

She is a greedy, selfish cow with an overinflated sense of self-entitlement. There are lots like her around and they will never change. The best you can do in a situation like this is to accept it and learn to laugh at her pathetic attitude.

I don't believe that's right. If I were her I would share. I would look in the manual book to see if she is even right or just plane lying to you or ask her boss. I think that you are right. Once in a while I think that she should get the crappy stuff so she know's how everybody else should feel.
