Go karting is probably the best place to start as a way of learning performance and competitive driving... also a good place to start since the cost is a fraction of what you'll find if you move up the motorsports ladder. Karting can carry you quite along way as well too if you head into shifter karts.

After karting, you would need to pursue getting a racing license (not sure what sanctioning body provides this in Singapore), and then getting involved in an amatuer series where you can hopefully catch the attention of someone that might offer you a chance to drive professionally (or at least offer sponsorship to make climbing the amatuer ladder more likely, and the higher you go there the more likely you'll be to get noticed).

Autocross would be another possibly entry point that will be low cost and offer a chance to learn car control skills (though nothing in the way of racecraft).

You must first begin with National gokarting. BMW has started a Racing championship for young talents and the right age would be 15 years. If you are talented I am sure you can move to formula renaults championship or the F3000 championship. If you are the champion you have a great chance of getting a super licence and become a test driver for an F1 team and then you will become a race driver. I am sure you will become an all time great driver if you follow my adwise and never give up.

F1's kind of one in billion. Or worse. You can climb ladder starting from those Skip Barber series after completing their race courses (you pay tuitions). You can actually climb up to Indy or CART in the US. And if you become some kind of super star just may be, just may be get a offer to test drive a F1 car if you're lucky. Or NASCAR is getting big too. But racing is one of most competitive thing out there and it would be like winning American Idol just to become professional driver in major race series in the states. Skip Barber offer race courses which lot of professionals actually did graduate from. In Europe people go F3 to F1. F3 is main feeding field for F1 series.

Sadly, it takes LOTS of money. I'm talking millions. If you want to race, accept that you are going to have to pay the bills yourself. Professional racers started at age 5 and had rich parents. Depending on where you live, you can get involved with karting or autocross for not a lot of money. If you're in the US find the Sports Car Club of America chapter for you:

Best of luck from a champion racing driver (still love being able to say that) :)
