Having made this journey with a stop in Malaga - the mileage works out something like this:
Alicante to Malaga is about 472 km
Malaga to Gib is about 132 km
So you are looking at roughly 604 km it´s a nice journey and lots of places to stop on the way and look around if that is what you want to do.
