The Altar should be provided with:
A lighted pale yellow candle
A yellow rose
A cup of white wine
A plate of bread and salt Incense (the incense should be olibanum, but sandalwood will do as a substitute)

The Athame to be consecrated

The Rite: Consecrate a circle. Face East. Taking the Athame in your right hand, pass it through the flame of the candle three times.

Say: In the Name of the Lord, I purify this Athame with Air. Finally sprinkle the Athame with salt three times and ...

Say: In the Name of the Lady, I purify this Athame with Earth. Holding the Athame up to the sky.

Say: Great Father, I call to you in the East, and ask that You instill the Power of Discernment in my Athame. Say: By the Lord and by the Lady, this Athame is now a holy tool, purified and consecrated to Your Service. So mote it be. Wrap the Athame in yellow silk or cotton for storage. Close the circle and snuff the candle. Thus ends the rite.

Well now, I'm not a wiccan - but I think it could go something like this...

You could create the ritual/spell using your own words.

You might begin with a declaration of your intent and purpose (preferably aloud) - do not just think them even if you are alone - If you want to have effects that manifest in more than just mental ways.

In many ways consecration of an athame is a renewal of your dedication and a formal oath in most covens. Even if you are solitary - the athame is a symbol of your will, and you should honour that with your commitment to keep both well maintained.

You could pass the blade through incense or a sweetgrass smudge for consecration with the element of air. Perhaps sweeping the smoke over the Athame with a feather or a small besom.

Likewise you could pass the blade through the flames of a small fire to consecrate to that element. Some dip the blade in an alchoholic beverage so that the flames 'walk the blade's edge'...

You can plunge it into a bowl filled with the element for consecration to water.

You could rub it with loadstone - a natural magnet to give it the consecration for earth.

Last I recommend that you carefully construct your sacred space out of doors... And you may want to pick the time for doing this very carefully, because if you check the sunrise moonset times you can time your ritual to so that you will have -both- sun light and moon light shining on the blade while you consecrate it by earth and air and fire and water.

You might also consecrate it with those if you have prisms or crystal ball to focus the light to a point on either side of the blade.

You could use a phrase like;
"With -element name- I consecrate thee,
and as my will, so mote it be..."

Or something of that sort... like I said, not a wiccan ... although I've taught a few.

;)

That's a nice athame, but the ritual is the same for all magickal tools, get salt, water, incense and a candle, cast a circle, then sprinkle the salt on it and say " By Elemental Earth, I cleanse you that you may be made ready to aid me in my work" (or something like this) pass it through the incense( sandalwood works well) and say "By Elemental Air,etc." repeat for the candle and Elemental Fire, and sprinkle water on it for Elemental Water, close the circle, then I usually bind the tool in a black cloth and leave it set for at least a day.
