Faith may mean to believe any people.
It may mean to believe only pure, kinly and radiant people.
It may mean to believe in some power greater than man.
It may mean to believe some leaders.
It may mean to surrender one's will under the Will of God.
Here I wish to humbly introduce to you the teachings of my divine Master about faith:
"Consider how most animals labor for man, draw loads and facilitate travel; yet, as they are ignorant, they receive no reward for this toil and labor. The cloud raineth, roses and hyacinths grow; the plain and meadow, the garden and trees become green and blossom; yet they do not realize the results and outcome of all these. The lamp is lighted, but as it hath not a conscious knowledge of itself, no one hath become glad because of it. Moreover, a soul of excellent deeds and good manners will undoubtedly advance from whatever horizon he beholdeth the lights radiating. Herein lies the difference: By faith is meant, first, conscious knowledge, and second, the practice of good deeds."

Faith is applying what you know towards an ideal and the reward of faith is that ideal becoming manifest/proven through your own resources (or sow what you reap). This is true across the board, be it in religion or in science. Before a scientist goes out to prove a theory, he has to have faith in his opinion until he can either prove it or disprove it through testing in his particular field.
In religion, gnosis is the ends of faith and faith is the ends of gnosis. Have to be faithful in what you know by living up to it, and more gnosis will be attained by you moving closer and closer to that general ideal.

Faith is believing in God's Word then expecting it. It's like a farmer planting a seed, watering it then seeing it grow.

to me, faith means trusting in God and Guru (spiritual teacher) that they know what's best for me, and that if they bring me to it, they will bring me through it :)
