Muhammad Ali was like a breath of fresh air to boxing. Before he was champ, they thought Rocky Marciano had mob ties. Floyd Patterson and Ingemar Johanssen didn't have the personalities to carry boxing to a new level. Liston definitely had mob ties and was a hit man for the mafia. Ali was brash, personable, loved the attention, and he backed up his predictions. He was a poet, a philosopher, a diplomat, and on top of being a great athlete, he is still the most recognized athlete in the world, including Michael Jordan. When Ali started as a pro, he was financed by 11 white businessmen from Louisville. Then after he converted to Islam, Herbert Muhammad handled the managerial issues. There was some questions about the Black Muslims, but they were very strict--honest, no booze, no carousing, no drugs, and a strict lifestyle and diet. He was very sincere about his conversion. Angelo Dundee said he wished he was as good of a Catholic as Ali was as a Muslim. Don King had no influence on Ali's career. Not even close. Herbert and the Muslims wouldn't even allow it. Ali fought all comers, always the top ranked fighters, fought on average every 6 wks and traveled the world. When they stripped away his title, Ali took a moral stand despite losing over 3 yrs of time in his prime. They took away his life and reputation until the Supreme Court threw out his case. He won millions of additional fans worldwide because of that. Ali was more than a fighter and it goes on from there to this day.

I am sick of people knocking Ali. He didn't run he stood up for what he believed. He showed the blacks in America that they didn't need to run any more either. He talked about fairness and freedom and no one can knock him for that he was right. He paid the price for not going to war. The supreme court of the United States found him not guilty. He sat out 3 years of his prime years and when I say prime I mean prime. You could tell he lost some of his movement in those 3 years and look at him today. Those 3 years allowed him to be hit alot more by guys like Frazier and Norton not to mention Foreman. Ali's fights were not fixed and I dare you to prove that any of them were. Why is he given so much credit? He is the greatest heavyweight of all times past or present. He would knock the Klitchkos out within 7 or 8 rounds. He wasn't only a great boxer he stood up for his people and did it with a great forum--boxing. People listened and that is all that matters.

No tonly was Ali a tremendous athlete and a colorful personality he was alo famous for taking a moral stand against the Vietnam war and the overabundance of young black men being sent there to die. And he didnt just talk. He went to jail for his beleifs when the army tried to draft him for the war. There have been many athletes in history who use their positions to speak out for or against something but how many of them would go to the lengths Ali did? He lost his heavyweight title!!! Not bad!

Why u be dissin him?
I think its not only his skill, but his ability to trash talk.
You see, to be remembered in history, u need something else to remember you by other than your ability.
If he is notorious for putting down his opponents and came up with some lines that have become classic, it adds to his claim to fame.
