Find a picture of what you want and take it to your stylist. Many stylists have books and magazines at the salon with the cut you're looking for stop by and take a look before deciding.

Hopefully that link works. The "emo" haircut is basically long bangs that always fall over your eyes and shorter hair in the back, usually with that piecy, chunky, just got out of bed look in the back.
