Because the people promoting the religion have to promote purity, as that is what they think will elevate their Messiah. As if someone who had engaged in sexual intercourse was not pure!
They thought no one would buy it otherwise. )
On the other had, you are correct. Why did she have to be a virgin? She was a soul created by God and if he chose her to give birth to the child who brings His message, what difference does it make who He chose? Who are we to judge??? Maybe the point was that we are all one, all equal in His eyes and He said, "Look, here , I am sending you an elevated conciousness and don't judge or question how he is born."

This is a good question, I shall put it on the shelf and ask God to reveal to me the answer. Why? Because, we know that the baby in a mother is of the fathers' blood and the seed of the father, and that is why Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He is of the blood and the seed of God; He is God. I never considered the question why Mary had to be a Virgin; since some of the women that helped Jesus Christ to get here were not virgins at all? Good question. Although it is said that if a woman has sex with a man she becomes one with that man; knowing that, would one want Jesus Christ to not have come through a virgin? I believe I am thankful that Mary was a virgin; because one has also heard that if you have sex with a person you are having sex with the person that person had sex with going back at least 10 times? Also if Mary had sex before Jesus Christ was born, then she would not be pure. In those days men had sex with many different women just like today. Good question; may God bless you and one prays for conformation for us both. 1+1+1=1>< To be sure that is a truth.

Because I think the Old Testament says that we are born sinful. Thus, wouldn't Jesus be born sinful? Well I think theologically, by being a virgin, Mary's womb was the only part of her that was not infected with sin since she had never been defiled there. Thus, with the aid of the Holy Spirit to conceive him, the womb of Mary was in effect without sin, thus Jesus could be born without sin. I think that is the reason why it was important for the Messiah to be born a virgin.

Because Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father, God, conceived by the Holy Ghost. Immanuel means God with us. That's why the Deity of Christ is attacked by satan because if He hadn't been born through a virgin birth, He couldn't have been our Savior. Satan knows he was defeated on Calvary through the perfect sinless sacrifice of Jesus atoning blood. The first born son generally recieved the inheritance. Also, we know that Joseph did not "know" his wife until AFTER Jesus was born. There's more to it than meets the carnal eye for sure. He had to be born of the Spirit so we could be born of the Spirit.

Probably because if she wasn't a virgin it would cast speculation on to who could be the father. Also, the virgin birth makes it an greater miracle. Several posts have made
coments that are absurd. The bottom line is that God can make live anywhere and from anything He chooses using His Will. He has that much power.

The Catholics insisted Mary be a Virgin about 300 years after Jesus died. Why? The Pope declared sexuality, ALL sexuality, as being an abomination to God. Everything that involved pleasure, especially sex, was a 'wicked indulgence'.
In short, the conception of Jesus could never, according to Catholicism, had involved pleasure of any kind. Why?
Guilt. All popular religions are based on guilt to keep the masses docile and obedient.

Jesus is God in the flesh. While we don't know the exact mechanism by which this fusion of deity and humanity came about--except that the Holy Spirit was the Agent by which it occurred--we do know that, had Christ been conceived in the natural manner, He would not have been God in human form, but would rather have been just the same as any other mortal.

She wasn't a virgin. Jesus was illigitimate. All of early Christianity was exclusive to the Jewish people. No Jewish person of that era would accept an illigitimate child as an equal much less a savior, so the gospels were embellished with the virgin birth fairy tale. This is acknowledged by 90 percent of serious bible scholars.
It is worth noting that since Jesus' entire message was to the Jewish people and since he expressly forbid his Disciples from preaching to gentiles, the whole Christian religion as we know it today is based on butting in to something that is actually none of their business.

She needed to be a virgin so there would be no question as to how the father was. God.
