We already know the election system and government system works in Iraq. The last issues would be security and the economy, once we stabilize their market then security. As we stated the 'Domino Retreat', which means other Mid-East nations will give in to democracy when it works in Iraq, troops should decrease in the region to reduce the power of extremists. The military should leave the region built up as a safeguard, officially giving the power of offense and defense to the President of Iraq similar to our Constitution.

One problem you have with a question like this on an unsecure site is information. You will not be able to attain the proper information for a definite answer.
Now that is aside.

I believe that in order to restore any sort of security to that country it has to be able to defend itself. Problem the current situation with the iraqi police/military is training. The police/military have only been training for 2-3 years. I don't believe that they have had enough time to effectively mount a military type security detail. Yes our troops are able to go through boot camp in a couple of months and on to a couple more months of training about 5 in total and be ready for war. That is only because of the experience of everyone else around them.

The Iraqis do not have that type of experience yet. I do see more troops going in to iraq to help train and get the Iraqi citizens ready to take care of themselves. I also see this taking at a minimum of 1 year but probably a couple more. I believe that we will be in a situation to pull our troops out completely by 2010.

Problem. If you follow our past we never completely pull out of a country and if we do the country becomes worse than when we went in. It is not good for our sailors and soldiers to be in a place that they are not wanted and seen as a hinderence more than a help but it is necessary now. We started it lets finish it.

The Bush administration may have gotten it wrong, deliberately or otherwise, by going into Iraq, but now that that they are there, all resouces must be mustered to curb daily unrelenting violence and let democracy and governance take root. If US withdraws prematurely, there will be civil war, a conflict that will spread to the rest of middle east. Oil prices will shoot up and the world at large will suffer. Also, as Gates correctly pointed out, US will be less trusted to resolve future conflicts, let alone lead any military confrontation.

There are various things that should be done simultaneously. Increase of trainers, increase of embeds, increase of fighting forces to go after insurgents and combing sectors and regions for weapons, increase in body armour and armoured vehicles, martial law, outlawing weapons from the streets, establishing more check points, increase field intelligence, and increase training of Iraqi police and military. There is no choice but to pour in a lot of money and human resource to stabilise Iraq now.

Withdrawl is pointless. I have been in Iraq for a year and know whats going on. CONGRESS needs to let the military build the country back together just like we did with Japan after WWII. But it's now too late for that and we have to spend all our time training the Iraqi police who could not shoot the near side of a barn.

the problem is liberals in this country wont allow any simple decision. they used this as a tax and spend power hungry grab and are eager to spin any move of the united states to ensure insulation into the power structure of congress when the motives are clearly economic and not military at all....bush is taking the right strategy...ignore the liberals and go to the generals for carefully crafted future moves. this takes time and there is no quick fix, especially with the pelosi ites hampering things at present.

The best way to retreat form Iraq is to mobilize the Armed forces.
Recruit Men and women into the Army (IRaqies) , give them support and provide intelligence report so that they are capable of contolling the ant-social things that are likely to come up!!!

How is their government working? They are being run by the Mahdi Army. At the moment every police officer and soldier being trained by the USA takes his weapon with him on his time off and serves as a member of a Mahdi death squad. These are the same people seen killing soldiers and civilians on Ogrish.com.

If we cut and run in Iraq we lose.
We can not bring our troops home until we win.
To win we have to stay.
So if we stay then we can leave.
