My fiance either doesn't believe in pets for therapy, or is reluctant to get a cat because of the cost to maintain a healthy pet. I'm taking the highest dosage of Paxil CR possible to relieve anxiety and minor depression. I seriously think that having a cat will help me with the depression aspect, and possibly with the anxiety. Does anyone have a pet for therapy? Please tell me your story.

I wonder what would happen if I just suddenly brought a cat home? If he sees that having a cat is ok, maybe he would let me keep it. On the other hand, he might get mad at me for not consulting him first. I want the cat to have a forever home, so getting rid of it wouldn't be an option. I want a cat so much, it hurts.

Well, if he won't support you, then I think that's a problem. I also have depression and I have 3 cats and I can tell you, that even on my darkest day, they bring me so much joy. I can't imagine going through depression without them. Sometimes I feel so alone (people wise) in the world and I know that I have them and it really helps me.

I would definately say go for it. If you can get your fiance to go along you should try anything you think might help that won't put you in danger. You could get a cat and you and he could decide that you will keep it for a month and if it isn't helping you or it is taking to much money or anything else you will find another home for it. Just make sure that if it doesn't work out you give the animal to a caring home and not the animal shelter. I think a cat might help you, considering what you've told us.

Amen TD, I have one cat that I love so much, and when I am feeling down, He too brings a smile to my face. They say that rubbing holding or petting an animal, helps the body to create endorphins, which in return makes you feel better. My baby is my company, hes my heart. And I would definitely say give it a try,
