If you have a head cold your sinus' could be impacting your problems and they could be swollen which is causing your gums to be swollen. If you brush, floss, and visit your dentist regularly then it shouldn't be a periodontal problem, it is probably just your sinus' are swollen and that can make your gums swollen. Try alternating heat and ice on your sinus are and see if that doesn't loosen up some of the head cold as well as the swelling in your gums. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water and take an OTC med like Tylenol, Advil, or some sinus med if not already taking something to relieve swelling and pain. I hope that this helps.

My gums do that, too sometimes for what seems like no reason. Give it a day or two to go down. If it doesn't, call a dentist.
