I just want to know what the Americans think abut the War on Terror. The war in afghanisthan was justified ,and seen by the world as a "tit for tat "answer to the Al Queda, but Iraq?...simply doesnt make sence!!!...
Iraq was far safer place with Saddam at the helm than americans occupying it....now it is the breeding ground for terrorism...
.One more thing have anyone ever thought how these incidents would come to haunt you one day...
Years back in the early 90s the americans supported the Afghani fighters to bring down the Russians...have you ever thought had Russia still been there the whole alqueda would have been their damn head ache!!!!
What was the need for all this. So many dead,,,American, Iraqis, englishmen....all for what?
I am not a anti-American person...i respect and admire the american for so many othr things..
I jsut want to know what the general public in america think about this

Get over yourself! I agree with what MY government is doing with this. If it wasn't for the US fighting over there, YOUR country might have been next on their list. Why can't people understand that what is going on is best for EVERYONE!!! Not just us?

Although al Qaida had US help to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan, their view is that Allah gave them the victory. The Jihadists have very long range plans to take over the world and have everyone alive follow their rules. I believe that the action was and is being taken in Iraq because it keeps the Jihadi attackers over there, fighting westerners out of their territory. Once they don't have that problem facing them, they will put more effort into attacking outside of Muslim countries.
The effort to bring some kind of functional democracy into the Middle East is to give people a choice of their own. Every government over there has problems, at least the regular people have problems, because even where there is huge oil income most of the government don't do much for their people.
The Saudis have sent their extremist Wahhabi teachings to any country that will accept their "charity". They have brought this scourge across the world. Wabbabi clerics are in our prisons ministering and found as academics in most North American and European universities.
That is how they've gotten this far in attacking through the 90's all the embassies, etc. Look at Lebanon and Sudan/Darfur.
If you are interested in the roots of this problem, I suggest
that you read Future Jihad by Walid Phares.

What I think (as an enlisted member of the USAF deploying to Afghanistan soon) is that we (all Americans or anyone outside the states) can speculate on the reasons why we think we went to war, but it really wont do any good. It wont change the fact that we're there or bring home the soldiers who have died.
I have actually stopped watching the media and news papers because they all are trying to tell me how to think and I can't sort the facts from truth. I have no oppinion on the war because I don't understand it nor do I care to try to. All I know is that I will do my job where ever I am told to go do it.

The media has done and continues to a great job of keeping most Americans scared to death. This has allowed the government to exert more control over the actions of all Americans, and the depiction of any dissenting views as un-American, un-patriotic, or on the side of the terrorists has reigned in a great deal of the public and most of our news outlets.
Opinions about the war are changing, unfortunately at this point, I am not sure what difference it makes. Our elected officials are more worried about the next election than doing the right thing, and spend more legislative time helping the large corporations than helping the public.
We are told daily that we have to stay in Iraq, either in blind support of Bush, or out of a sense of responsibility for the invasion. If we leave then we have shown weakness and the terrorists claim a victory.
Sadly even with public sentiment against Bush and his war, our legislators will not cut funding to our troops for fear of losing their seats in 2008. Short of that action, Bush is pretty much free to conduct the war as he sees fit. This includes expanding the current conflicts into other countries if he wants.
We basically have two choices as I see it.
Either we continue and Bush does whatever he wants for the next two years, or we impeach both Bush and Cheney and ensure that their replacements withdraw all troops from Iraq.

I believe Al Qaeda would still be around in similar broken countries...such as Somalia. Afghanistan would not be Russia's head ache if Al Qaeda were to base there. They want Americans, not Russians (although Im sure they will not hesitate to attack them). I believe Afghanistan can be justified, but Iraq....well....thats just a major screw up.

I personally do not agree with the war. I think America needs to protect its own borders better, and then live and let live. If a country ASKS for help, thats one thing. But to go invade a country under the guise of democracy and freedom is a crock. Im getting tired of watching all of our young people die, while our government leaders blow smoke trying to look like tough guys. I think Bush has opened a can of worms that now he can't close!
