HI there...there are many variables which can contribute to a cat to suddenly lose weight such as feline hyperthyroidsim http://www.avmi.net/NewFiles/Hyperthyroidism/Hyperthyroidism.html . It's very critical to have your cat evaluated medically to run tests to determine the cause and be treated respectively. Some feline diseases can be fatal if not addressed soon enough. It's difficult to honestly give you a fair assessment as to what would cause this therefore only a veterinarian who can see your cat would be best at this juncture. I hope he will be alright.

Just like people, weight loss and lethargy can be symptoms of many illnesses, some of them serious. I would take him to the vet as soon as you can. I could be a simple virus, or it could be more serious. My cat lost a lot of weight and she ended up having kidney failure and diabetes, so don't wait.
I hope it's nothing serious.

Sounds like he is VERY sick and if he has not had all his immunizations then you may have a serious problem. Cats can be diabetic and that is one major sign of it. He may also have an infection in his urinary track. Get him to the Vet ASAP cause it may just be a virus they can treat. Cats get the flu to.
Good Luck!

I have to agree with all that say the vet .Things are not rights not right... Cats are curious little shits. I had one that did similar ... Upon finding out the problem . It had caught and ingested a mouse that had eaten Decon (RAT POISION) I was lucky I got to the vet in time . the prob is dehidration,, The poision sucks all the liquid- water from there Body causing them to loose weight and become listless...... P.S. Call a vet...Good luck

How do you know he's not sick? I didn't think my cat was sick either, but, when I realized she was skinny, it was too late. She had stomach cancer. It's never good if they lose weight drastically, and/or quickly. I would take him to the vet.

He needs to see a vet urgently. It could be something easily treatable but without a proper diagnosis you won't know.
Good luck, I hope he's OK.

Cats can dehydrate very quickly, check to see whether he is drinking enough water and eating, and call your vet right away.
