Queen - don't know the origin.
A couple of people have said - tabby - which is wrong. Tabby is the word to describe the coat colour which is grey or brown mottled or streaked with dark stripes. You can also get tabby and white. A tabby cat could be male or female.
Tortoiseshell cats which are yellowish brown mottled, often with black or cats that are tortoiseshell and white are always female i.e. Queens.

How about Queen! My baby (female 2 yrs) rules the house over 2 boys, one who is 13 years old! LOL Don't know if they have a proper 'term' for females. The vet always just says female....? :)
