The military seem to contact all high school seniors. You are supposed to register when you're 18. If you don't, you will be denied student loans or other things you may like to have. There is no draft and there are only about two people in Congress who think there should be. Don't worry about it. Almost everyone realizes that it better to have a volunteer military.

The military receives lists off all students approaching military age from the local high schools. So yes it is probably an actual Military recruiter contacting you.

Just because they have you name, address, and phone number does not mean they can draft you, yet.

Currently the military does not have a draft, so if you do not want to join, you can not be forced to. If, however, a draft is instituted then yes you will be going into the military.

As far as the scholarships go, some are military related, but far more are available to persons regardless of their military status. Your High School Guidance Counselor or any of your local colleges can help you identify and apply for those.

College education is a big gun in the recruiters arsenal, but your choice to enter the military should involve many more considerations than that.

College is an obtainable goal for most graduating high school students. Getting funding is hardest for middle class income families, but if you get your Associates degree from a two-year college in your local area, the costs can be met without being homeless or bankrupting your family.

Another advantage of 2+2 is that once you graduate from your local college, you are then a transfer student into the 4 year college that you choose. Transfer students have different admission requirements than incoming freshman students

Again if you choose a local college (within your State) the tuition costs are much cheaper.

During peacetime, many military personnel could complete college courses in concert with their military duties. However these were the more senior personnel that had already completed the bulk of their training and qualifications in their jobs. The more junior personnel had far fewer opportunities due to the fact that they have to learn their job first.

During war, however, the college deal reverts to an after you leave the military opportunity. Hard to get civilian college instructors to volunteer to risk their lives to teach, and even harder to find the time for studying even if the courses were available.

The best way to ensure that the choice remains yours is to vote when you are eligible and to pressure the adults around you to be involved and to vote also. When Congress gets no reaction from the voting public, it assumes it is making the right decisions.

Even if you are too young to vote you can still get involved in the political process. You can form clubs or groups or do your own research into current events in Washington, and the bills being considered and debated. The Internet is the #1 source for that. There are many government websites (at least one per agency) and many sites that attempt to convert the legalese of the bills into language anyone can understand.

you really are getting worked up over this phone call.

As part of the no child left behind program all high school grads information is given to the military recruiters so they can give them a call and talk to them.

he shouldnt have been mean, or presuring you, just letting you know what the military can offer you. For a lot of people the military is a great choice and a stepping stone for a successful life, but it is not for everyone.

im not going to tell you to join or not to, but i would hope you consider it and make a decision on your own terms not what your parents or friends want.

Ive been in the Marines for almost 3 years and ive loved almost every day.

if you want information on the military from another source, skim about.com's military section.

maybe someone at your school knows this person personality (friend) and thinks the military may be good for you?
I doubt requiters are just looking up individual kids from schools to recruit over the phone. (against the rules)

Remember- just because you're in the military doesn't mean you are going overseas. There are 4 different main branches with others (reserves and guard). It all depends on your job. You know you can be just about anything in the militaary that you can be in the civilian world too- doctor, dentist, cook, work in finances, computer tech, mechanic, fuel vehicles/jets, etc. There are thousands of jobs and not EVERYONE deploys.

The military does not give you scholarships, although you do earn College Funds, G.I. Bill, Tuition Assistance (very generous), etc. If you don't want to join then it will matter very little because I'm sure you are within draft age. Besides, if you register to vote, guess what? You put yourself on that list.

Nothing to worry about, if you decide the Marines or the military as a whole is not for you, just tell the recruiter to leave you alone and he/she will have to according to regulations.

Oh yea, Arizona National Guard is NOT the Marines.

dude this is a basic recruiting technique, thats how i was encouraged to join. But in my case i originally wanted to join the army, he managed to change my mind, i guess for me being called a jarhead was more appealing. The scholarships or aid offered is legit. if your in college they will offer for you to train as a 92day reservist, they may also offer you the kicker, which is money for college, but make sure to ask and have that signed for in your meps papers if you do decide to join.

There is a war. They are so hungry for bodies they just sent 1100 Arizona National Guard. I guess they figured they already know about deserts.
