Try to make him as comfortable as possible. Mean wean him off needing you so much. Maybe each day leave him along longer and longer with somebody he knows.

He actually might not be crying the whole time you are gone. My puppy does the same thing, but only if he knows that I am in the room or somewhere near by. Otherwise he'll just cry for a few minutes and then stop.
If it's the middle of the day, I wouldn't worry about him crying. Make sure you leave him some toys and treats (my dog favors the KONG) and he should be fine.
Another option could possible be trying to find someone to stop by during the day.
Good luck!

You need to become the leader of the pack....why? Because Leaders come and go as they please, when a dog knows you are a leader it will not be concerned when you go out.
Please do some research into how to become the Leader of the pack, I highly reccomend you head to the book store and look at books from Jan Fennell in the pet section.
In addition here are some tips:
1) Prior to leaving, ignore your dog for 5 minutes, don't say anything as you leave.
2) When you come home, ignore the dog for 5 minutes, don't say anything - after 5 minutes, call the dog to you and continue as normal. if the dog does not come to you, ignore the dog for the rest of the day and just the same system again the next day as the dog is testing your leadership abilities.
3) Walk your dog before you leave the house, an exercised tired dog has a calm mind.
4) Provide your dog with mentally stimulating activities, search for toys that are interactive.
5) Look at the diet you are giving your dog? Is it supermarket junk food brands? Switch to a Raw diet called B.A.R.F - this can calm dogs down a hell of a lot.
6) With your dogs meal, provide 1 x fish oil capsule with included Vit E for every 10 kg's of body weight, Fish oil has shown to help with aniexty.
7) Give your dog Rescue Remedy, this is an oral spray you can purchase from a health store.
You should also consider closing doors behind you when you are home so that the dog can not follow you, this is called 'alone training'. So when you leave the lounge room, close the door behind you, when you go to the bathroom close the door behind you etc.
You can also further alone training, by pretending you are leaving the home and then return after 1 minute - you still need to ignore the dog for 5 minutes on arrival. Over the course of the week you go from being absent from 1 minutes to 30 minutes and more if you can, this shows that dog that you will return.

Your dog most likely by now has a favorite spot in the house -- and a place where your scent is most concentrated. If he does have that favorite spot, place your laundry --spread out as a bed for him to sleep in. He will sleep like a baby.

It's tough-it's like a mom leaving her kids alone.
He probably will cry, at least until he adjusts. He needs a friend.
I hear you. Have had similar dog sadness.

I guess a sitter?? hahah.. well kidding...
but I guess you can't get him more doggies.. otherwise they'll kill each other.. or there will be more crying in the apartment... try to bring him to a place where you can just pick him up and leave him.. u know.. like a daycare center?? hehe.. if he's really that worth it..
