I've been having trouble with a dry patch on my scalp. I've used different shampoos from the salon and I even change my shampoo every month, but it won't work. It will go away for a while and then suddenly it will be back. It's not dandruff, but it looks like huge flakes.
Any advice would be great because I'm sick and tired of it!

I used to get those same dry patches with large flakes, too, and it drove me crazy! I now use a product called "Scalp Remedy" by Aveda. It comes in a brown glass bottle which uses a dropper to collect and distribute the liquid. It's an all-natural botanical serum that includes peppermint. Use it after you shampoo and before you let your hair dry. Just rub it into your scalp, especially in the dry, itchy spots. After a week of consistent use, the flakes and the itch should disappear. This stuff will not make your scalp or hair greasy at all. I absolutely LOVE it! You can find it at an Aveda store or any beauty supply store.

* If you have a dandruff problem, you will have just flakes in your hair. But if you experience an inflamed condition of scalp then it’s best to see a doctor. It might be a case of seborrhea and seborrheic dermatitis, which can be pretty serious.
* Seborrhea is a disorder of the sebaceous glands that can appear in two ways; either the glands produce too much oil, resulting in a very greasy scalp, or too little oil, resulting in a dry, itchy scalp. Although it is more serious than dandruff, simple seborrhea is more annoying than dangerous.
* Seborrheic dermatitis is a severe from of seborrhea which can, in extreme cases, lead to hair loss.
* Psoriasis is among the most serious of the common scalp diseases. It is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by the development of reddish patches on the scalp, covered with large, dry scales which, when removed, leave the underlying tissue exposed and sometimes bleeding.
* Ringworm is a fungal infection that leads to circular patches of hair loss. This infection is contagious and can be contracted from human beings and animals. It can be easily treated with an antibiotic, but one should consult a doctor first.
* Dermatitis is a scalp disorder characterized by a reddish inflammation with damp, sometimes oozing scales. It requires urgent attention from a doctor.
* So if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, be sure to visit a doctor.

Hi - I know how you feel! Ive got eczema on my scalp, have ahd for years - cant wear black tops coz the resulting scurf is gross! I find that Polytar is the best thing, it smells like tarmac but really helps with the itching and flaking. Or T-gel is also effective for a more every-day use. If youd like more info, feel free to PM me! Bex xx

Dedfinitely go and see your doctor - it might be psoriasis or some other skin problem. The fact that you say it comes and goes it might be stress related? They can give you shampoo or drops and it will go away quickly.
