When I recently purchased a puppy I was told that it was a female, just shy of six weeks old. After 11/2 weeks my puppy appears to have male genitalia. Is it that difficult to determine the gender of a small puppy? I will be taking him or her to the vet this week. Just thought I could get a good answer from someone on this site.

With girls, their "plumbing" is in between their back legs just below their tails. With boys, their "plumbing" is more toward the middle of their belly, kind of close to where their umbilical cord is.

I've had both genders and I think female is easier to house train because if you don't fix the male he will mark his territory and the female doesn't do that but if you don't fix the female she will have um her "time of the month" so maybe she should wear a diaper.

It's pretty simple... if the pup has what looks like a penis that is a few inches higher than the rest of the pup... or a penis that hits the lower belly area then its a boy! hehehe...
girls just have one area and its pretty obvious if you look...

Are you serious!? Male puppys have obvious genitalia (penis) that is kinda on the lower part of the belly. Right where you would rub his belly. Females are all in the same area just under the anus.

The area in which it pees will either be in the middle of it's tummy (boy) or back by its butt (girl). Good luck!

I really don't know why you asked such an obvious question. Males have a penis and two testicles. Females do NOT. Females have two holes near their tail and 6-8 small nipples on her belly.
If you got him/her so young, maybe you didn't realise.

UH, if is has a penis then it is a boy if there is NO penis then yes it is a girl
