The best way to prevent any future eye problems is a game of "Lights Out".
I can't see too well. What's it all about?
I don't know man... Did you poke your eyes out?
Funny thing... I did it today
Was time to get hip to the lights out way
If you poke too far and reach the front of your brain
A fork in your mind will drive you insane
Don't worry much. Just let it rip
Turn your eyeballs to the lights out grip

This might sound funny, but don't use the same make-up and their brushes for too long. I saw a show on tv where they showed how many bacteria are alive in the make-up and on the brushes. They can all cause serious infections. For the rest I don't think there's much to do!
And going for regular eye tests are good for prevention as well!

Don't rub your eyes and wash your hands before you touch your eyes. Don't use other people's towels when you dry your face. If you use contact lenses, change them regularly and dont sleep with them in, clean them properly. If you wear glasses have your eyes tested regularly and update your prescription. Throw away old make up ie mascara and eye liner/shadow after a year, old make up will irritate your eyes. Wear sunglasses while driving and in bright sunlight.

Never touch your eyes without thoroughly washing your hands first. Use a hand sanitizer if you have to...
Don't touch your eyes with objects, you might want to avoid eyeliner and eyeshadow.
And don't allow others to touch your eyes (children for instance).
That should prevent any eye infections.

Please see the web pages for more details on Conjunctivitis, Glaucoma and Trachoma. Genital Herpes or Cold sore can cause eye infection and blindness. In diabetic patients, diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness. Check your eyes every two years.

Keep your eyes clean, remove makeup daily if your wear it. Do not rub your eyes with your fingers, its surprising how infections can be passed that way.

One way I have not seen posted by others is:
Never Share Mascara or Eyeliner with Others!

Keep your fingers and other objects out of them. Don't use Visine, they have preservatives that gunk up your eyes.
