It doesn't really matter.
Generally a white wine glass is smaller than a red wine glass for the very simple reason that white wine is usually served chilled, so the idea is to serve a little and often from the bottle kept cold in the ice-bucket. Once the wine is in the glass it will begin to warm-up, and thats the only reason for the size of the glass.
Both glasses should have a generous bowl and taper to a small opening in order to concentrate the perfume of the wine, be clear (no patterns, paintings, colors in order to appreciate the color of the wine) and thin at the rim (it feels nicer on your mouth). But the most important thing is the wine.
There is a lot of phooey about wine glasses, but basically you need only two types - a general wine glass and a Champagne flute (plus -- if you do a lot of tasting - an ISO tasting glass -- this doubles well as a Port/dessert wine glass).
Yes, there are companies that make a different glass for every type of grape variety -- but they need to sell glasses, don't they?
Me? I drink a lot of wine and I have one general glass I use for both red and white, Champagne flutes and tasting glasses. Yes, over the years I ahave accumulated all sorts of special glasses but the ones I actually use every day are as mentioned.

White wine glassess are commonly known to be more elongated, not unlike champagne flute glasses. Red wine glasses would be more bulbous, more rounded.
But historically (and truthfully) there isn't any difference. Wine glasses evolved as each wine growing region created their own wine glasses. There is much debate regarding what the best wine glass is for each type of wine. Let them argue... as long as your glass is clear and thin-lipped everything is ok. (source cited)

a white wine glass is skinnier in shape than a red wine glass, which looks more like a bowl.
If you want to get super technical, there are even different glasses that correspond to the different grapes!
but for white wine, stick to a glass that is more similar to a champagne flute, and for the red look for one that reminds you more of a gold fish bowl!

A red wine glass tends to be more round and abit bigger, giving the wine ample room to breath. White wine glass are more egg shape with a tight lip.

grapes come in red and white variety's the grapes will help determine the type of wine. To make a white wine you crush the grapes and press the juice off, you ferment this juice to make the wine. To make a red wine you crush the grapes and leave the skins and the juice together for the first fermentation. the longer the wine is on the skins, the darker and more complex the wine.

Well its not as simple as that. There are wine glasses for particular types of wines.
But the basic difference between white/red glasses is that the red glasses have a larger bloom. There is a bolder fragrance to a red and the bigger bloom means that the smells get to linger and swish about so you get the right smells as you sniff before you drink.
