That's a good question, however, when you look at the verses, light itself was created on the 1st creative day, on the 4th day, the operative term is "shine upon the earth".
I would say that apparently it was such that said light being created in the 1st day, was now able (for whatever reason, clouds, gases, etc.) to shine or be seen from the surface of the earth.

Yes, as someone above mentioned already, God is light. Light travels at EXACTLY 299,792,458 meters per second. Thats why no one can see him... God, that is to say, light is just too darned fast to see!
Since it takes light, er... that would be God, so long to make his galactic rounds, it takes tens of thousands of years for him to get as far as Ursa Minor. He'd still be only about a tenth of the way to the Orion Belt in the 2000 years since that kid of his was crucified! Why, I wouldn't expect God to make it back to Earth for another couple of billion years.
Seriously though, every Creationist knows that effects ALWAYS come before causes.
(This has been a sarcastic interlude.)

Rev 22:5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign forever and ever.
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Isa 60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
The mere presence of the Lord moving over the face of the waters was light enough,
God bless

So how exactly does this evening-morning thing work with no sun for the earth to rotate around? Or did god rotate the light? Being as he's the light, did you just circle the earth? Wheee!

the story is told for the perspective of one standing on earth. It is a vision which got shared, and the earth was encircled with vapors that hid the sun and then it was removed. Thats what I got when I prayed for answers. It fits if you understand God communicated with man through a vision and the man wrote it down. Geologists will tell you all that is there in fact actually happened, if you understand it from that perspective.

Genesis is a story written by people trying to make sense of Life, the Universe and Everything. Don't take it literally because it is an allegorical tale for people who don't want to be bothered with reality.

Your best answers to your questions are in the bible. Here is the key. The old Testament is a love story of God and man. Man's failings and God's forgiveness. The new Testament is the Second chapter of that story, where God finishes the issues of man's failings, and sends His son to take the burden. Revelation is the final chapter where God marries His church and they rejoice together, happily ever after. That is the greatest love story of all time, and you should read each chapter.

The Bible says that God is light, no need for the sun. The bible also says one day on the new earth, there will be no sun, God will be our light.

We know from science that much of Genesis is pure fiction, including the entirety of the creation story.
