Use Frontline on your cat and a decent vac on your floors and furniture. Vac through thoroughly and slowly each day so that you get the little beggars and their eggs...it may take a few weeks of doing so, but you will eventually emerge the winner....you can even put some flea powder in the vacuum's bag to help kill them after they have been collected. Frontline needs to be applied every five to six weeks. There is no need to spray your house with anything.

I can't give the precise name of the medicine but you obtain the medicine thru the vet and the cat takes the medicine to literally rid them of the flea infestation. I understand these Programs as they call some of the products are effective, have no adverse affect to the animal... and like a child would be given medicine by a reputable doctor the same for your kitties! Bathe the cat gently too with something in the basin which the cat can feel safe touching such as a towel, not too deep water and comfortable temperature. It is not that cats don't like water...they want to feel safe. Flea combs too help. A cat has fleas transferred from the mother at birth. We track fleas in ourselves with or without a pet. This is nature!

The other posters are right on track. You definitely need to get your cat on a good flea preven medicine--frontline, advantage, or revolution. a cheapie from the drugstore won't work--go to the vet to get something good. you may also want to have the vet apply if it you have never done it before. it's important to get most of the liquid down by the skin or it won't be effective. repeat advantage treatments every 3 to 4 weeks

I also recommend giving program orally to your cat. any flea that bites her while she had program in her blood will be rendered unable to reproduce. program isn't toxic to cats like other flea meds so you won't be overdosing her. program works by inhibiting formation of chitin--present in fleas but not cats or people. its ideal for interrupting the life cycle of any flea that manages to live on her after the advantage treatment.

now to treat the house. vibrations will help eggs hatch so vacuum the same areas over and over A LOT. wash anything that you can. consider pesticide sprays for trouble spots if that is not harmful to your mom.

the bad news is that fleas can lie dormant for up to 2 months so it'll take a while to kill all of them. if you're really suffering you should consider moving you, mom and kitty to a hotel room and doing a thorough bombing.

my family has survived a couple of flea infestations without having to bomb or fog. good luck

I have Asthma too and Advair works for me the BEST. Use Frontline or Revolution. on the cat and and all other pets in the household. Then, get a area spray for the shed eggs and adults to use in corners and on carpets. Put a flea collar in the vacuume bag or canister. NOT ON TH CAT as they are unsafe.
Good luck. Oh and wash all bedding the cat came on or near to

Consistent use of Advantage on the cat and various area sprays in the house should get rid of the fleas. The asthma may require other approaches, depending on what triggers it.

Start using Frontline on your cat and don't ever stop. Then go get a huge box of Borax laundry soap and sprinkle it all over every inch of your carpet. Let that sit in the carpet for a few days then vaccuum it up. The fleas eat it and die. Then you just sweap up the powder and the dead fleas. Frontline keeps them from ever coming back!

SPCA or a place of your own, and maybe even some perspective. You would even consider keeping a flea-infested cat in the same house as your own mother?
