No. The basic things a plant needs to make starch or simple sugar are carbon dioxide,water,minerals and vitamins and soil plus sunlight. without these of course the plant can't make starch!!!

no the starch which is found in the plants is an organic compound whose formula is C6H12O6(glucose).. and for the carbon it requires the carbon atom from carbon-di-oxide. It breaks CO2 to take carbon and releases O2 into the atmosphere...
Hence the plant cannot perform the process of photosynthesis without carbon

if there are no CO2, the Calvin cycle won`t occurs, and if there are no Calvin cycle, there will be no starch.
