3 months is too young to judge, some babies just do that, I wouldn't be concerned this early, when I was young, my mother thought I was deaf, because when she would talk to me , I just sat and stared, but all turned out fine.

Three months is very young to know for sure. Are there are other symptoms such as not smiling or mimicking faces? Does she not respond to sounds around her? Does she have any feeding difficulties? Most of the time the symptoms of Autism do not present themself until the child is between 12 and 17 months, however there are very subtle signs that could be present at 3 months of age. My son used to do all these as a newborn and he used to stare at the same spot in his swing for hours from the time he was 2 months old. He is now three and he is autistic. I missed those early signs because I didn't know that they were Autism symptoms. My advice is to just watch her development closely, because she will begin to show other symptoms as she gets older if she is in fact autistic. Watch to see if she is walking, talking, sitting up, holding her bottle on her own, babbling. and so forth at the ages she should be. It is true that all children do things in their own time, but if you notice for instance, that your grandchild is 9 months old and not sitting up yet, call the doctor. This was the case with my son and I listened to everyone tell me not to worry, he will do it when he is ready, only to get reamed out by the neurologist because I didn't listen to my instincts. Looking back, I now see that my son always had symptoms, even when he was 2 or three months old. I always felt that someting wasn't right. I chalked it up to being a nervous first time mom. At 3 months old she is too young to be evaluated, and it could very well be nothing. But definitely keep an eye on her and most importantly, LISTEN TO YOUR GUT!!!! If it turns out that she has autism, then you can get her the treatment she needs. The earlier you get treatment for her, the better her chances are. Don't worry, but do pay attention . Best of luck!!!!

Autism usually can't be detected at that age. She might have some sensory integration issues but just ignore your friend because it's too early to tell. Once she reaches about 9 months and if you still have concern you can ask your doctor for a referral to your local childhood early intervention services for an evaluation. Kids do weird things especially when they are young and it doesn't mean anything. Just love her and don't try to figure her out until she is old enough to really evaluate.

If she is doing everything normal, I would not worry about it. Allot of babies do that. I myself have a 4 and a half month old. If you have any real concerns there are tests doctors can perform, to set your mind at ease.

an autistic child won't really show signs until about 1 yr. She could be have seizures. Not all epileptics fall down and convulse. sometimes they just seem to stare into space.

Don't worry she should grow out of it, if she does not take her to the doctor. But to me it sounds like a normal baby to me. ( I have 5 KIDS I shoukd know)

it is very hard to tell at this age. you should consult the doctor if you have worries. remember at 3 months they cannot see very well anyway, so she could just be focusing her eyes.
