This is uncanny because it is common amoung the very smart. I think maybe its got something to do with the opposite of ignorance is bliss. Average people are like fish in a way they just live their lives and dont think too much outside of it. The smarter you are the more ability you have to think further about possibilities and this knowledge can drive you a bit nutty.

actually would you have asked a genius if they had symptoms? or are you just assuming, because of behaviours you might not understand, and secondly, what is a genius?
if you single out a person, treat them as being seperate, they will keep retreating, or they will use your assumption against you.
this is scary, but most intelligent people can atleast give you a reason for specific behaviours and quirks. start watching "normal people" with the same critical eye.
you will be fascinated, just dont put much stock in your assesments, because eventually you'll look at yourself.
the worst mental illness i can think of, is assumeasyndrom

Very few people know this, but a lack of Dopamine causes Parkinson's Disease. Therefore Parkinson's Disease is the neurological opposite of schizophrenia.

Good question. I don't think anyone really knows the answer to this question yet. One theory that I like is that the mental illness sort of "unlocks" the person's creative capabilities.
