Start with Romans (new testament) that is the book that tells you about the laws of religion and faith. Then work your way around. Remember the new testament was after God gave everyone free will. The old testament was when God was trying to get everyone to follow him and that was the end result. Most preachers, priest, evangelist often refer more to the new testament in sermons. The only thing all the people who constantly take the lords name in vain or says derogatory things about the bible, God and Jesus won't be forgiven. Whether it is true or not I'd be a lot more careful when I am poking fun at something I really don't know anything about. One thing the bible does say those that don't know will judged more mercifully than those who do know because the people that don't know can't be blamed but the ones who have read the bible know and will be judge because of that knowledge.

Whichever interests you first. Off course reading the Old Testament first will put everything in perspective. And no no one is going to write a newer Testament. For what reason?

You should begin in Genesis. Everything written in the bible, new and old testament is introduced in the book of Genesis.
The old testament is a shadow of the new testament. You should read the old testament, but if you are going to study the bible do a topical study. In a topical study you will receive the benefit of both the new and the old testament.

First, read the book Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament. Usually, this sums up for people how they feel about the frustration and futility of their lives.
Then, get a New Testament that has the words of Jesus in red., (A Red Letter Edition). Then, just read the teachings of Jesus. Ignore any leanings you have within your mind to interpret what Jesus says according to what you have learned of Christian theology. Do NOT read anything else in the Bible until you have done this 3 or 4 times! Then, read the rest of the New Testament in light of what you personally believe about what Jesus said. Pay attention to the contradictions between the teachings of Jesus, and the teachings of his followers.

I wouldn't bother with either of them if you haven't already read the Bible. If you must though, just start with Deuteronomy and Judges. Both books contain one God mandated atrocity after another in rapid succession. If anything will bring you to your senses, it will be reading these two books of scripture.
I wouldn't bother with the New Testament after that, because it's mostly just about Jesus saying how wonderful God is for all the crap he lays on people in the Old Testament (ie: in Deuteronomy and Judges for example...) If you still believe that God and Jesus are all sunshine and roses after reading Deuteronomy and Judges, you need more help than anyone can offer you here on Yahoo Answers...
There is a "Newer Testament". It is called The Book of Mormon. For some reason though, mainstream Christians fail to recognize it as such, because even though they have waited almost 2000 years for some new revelation of God, they just don't want to recognize the revelations of the Mormons.
Coincidentally, The Book of Mormon is just as senseless as The Bible...
Anyway, good luck to you. Personally, I would recommend something by LLewellyn or Jordan if you really just want a good book to read.

Old comes first, so I would read that first, or else the new testament makes little sense. You're supposed to read a book from beginning to end, not start half way through then read the beginning half after you read the ending.

I'd begin at the beginning (the Old Testament.)
Also, some believe they already have written a more recent testament. For instance, Islam follows a belief along those lines, albeit with different phrasing.

Its always best to start a journey at the beginning. And the O.T. is the beginning of the judo/Christian religion.
The New Testament is still being written in the Book of Life. By every act each person does.
