I play an 8.5 stiff driver, and I’ve had problems hitting drives too. What I’ve noticed is if I catch the ball lower down in the face of the driver, the ball will fly low, catch well up in the face and it flies nice and high.

However, that doesn’t answer your question, you want to ensure that you’re catching the ball on the upswing. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea, but… I watched someone analysing John Daly’s driver swing on TV the other evening. The main point I got was, at setup Daly’s spine is angled to his right, which helps ensure that he keeps behind the ball thru out the swing, which helps him hit up thru the ball. You’ll probably have to see a slow-mo of his driver swing to see how this works.

The quickest way to hit longer, straighter tee shots is to use a driver with more loft and a more flexible shaft. This will help the ball get up faster and create a longer flight. As for technique, solid contact is the most crucial factor. To do that, swing at 80 percent, no more. Most golfers go at it way too hard and lose their balance, and that leads to mis-hits. Swing at three-quarter effort and hold your finish until the ball lands. You won't believe how much better you'll drive the ball.
Hope this helps you out. I know it sure helped me a lot. Good luck. Happy Holidays.

Try not to change your swing if you are contacting the ball well. Just use a less lofted clubface.
Or you may want to try swinging on your backswing with a FLATTER WIDER arc. That seems to work for me.
Your back swing should also be on a slightly less tilted (less vertical plane)
Instead of bringing your right shoulder (on the down swing) too much down under your chin, you may want it to just brush your chin.
The lack of carry is very much due to your timing releasing your ****** wrists.

If you want to hit the ball on the upswing, play it a bit forward in your stance, in line with the inside of your forward foot. You may also need to widen your stance a little.

Stand back on the ball and let it rip. It'll take you a little bit to adjust but you'll get the hang of it. Good luck!
