I want to be able to take quality photographs of Theatrical and Dance productions- what camera works best in these conditions?

Actually, it is about the camera. In part, anyway. The Canon 5D is fantastic at high ISO. The other part is fast glass, and Canon has plenty of that.
I'm a satisfied Nikon D200 user, but I wouldn't dream of using it at ISO 3200 for anything important.

The EOS 5D seems to be the most appropriate, though rather expensive solution for low light photography as it provides a good image quality at high ISOs

its not about the camera its about how u use it ... if ur asking which SLR is good in low light if u use auto everything ... then u dont have the need to buy one ... if u use it the way u want it then everyone is good ... the new ones from CAnon and Nikon are really good ... CAnon D 400 and Nikon 80 D ... good !!!
