I wanted to share this, it's not a question, so don't report me. This is the end of a beautiful poem about a civilian and a soldier on Christmas Eve. Just something to make you think, and a small thank you for our servicemen and women and their loved ones who will be spending this holiday apart. Thank you for keeping America safe.
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Thank you so much, as a former soldier I can say that for most of the men and women in our armed services that poem is all the reconition we would want. It`s a beautiful poem, thank you for posting it.

Thank you for that. My husband is currently deployed and even though you said this was only the end of the poem, it's a thought that needs to be taken to heart by many more people.

You are to be commended for your kind thoughts and admiration for the young, middle-aged, and oldsters who have sacrificed their lives and families to serve in the U.S. military. I also send my sincere appreciation to the men and women who are "standing up" for my freedom.
I would, however, like to direct you to a book published in 1939 by Dalton Trumbull, "Johnny Got His Gun". There may be "glory in death", but there is no glory in being maimed. "What price freedom"?
Vietnam veterans were scorned and rejected when they returned to the U.S. Who remembered their bleeding? Who was concerned about their sacrifice?
