Plenty of people do...much of the initial money and volunteers to help New Orleans came from people donating to churches and church groups donating their time.

Well, of course they do. Churches get donations all the time, at least around here. In addition to all the regular donations, people often will money to churches when they die. Locally, someone willed nearly one million dollars to the church she attended.

Actually a LOT of people give donations to their home churches and to the Church in general. many of the people I know give above 10% of their income to their church along with supporting Christian radio, missionaries, and more.

To be honest i stop givng money to these big evanlistist outfits i give to ministries that actually are useing the money to get the gosple out. I have stopped giving money to ministries that have retirements for pastors or that pay the pastors over 40k a year. And i do not give to people that beg because God words states the just shall live by faith not begging. I give to Israel often because he who blesses the nation of Irael will be blessed. So i do homework before giving in these times.

i work very hard for my money, and i drive a beat up ford, and live in a rented house that is not near to big enough for my family.
i need food much more than they need another golden statue or altar.
i need to keep my car running and not worry abut the preacher's lexus.
oh yeah and i am Pagan and do not believe that giving money or any monetary item to anyone will aid in my afterlife in any way.
religion is a form of belief, and beliefs are free.
i do not believe that people that are given divine inspiration or gifts should be selling what they were given by the gods, these gifts are given so that the person can help others, no so that they can drive a fancy car, and live in a big house.

Jehovah's Witnesses are 100% maintained by voluntary contributions of valuables (including the time of their members). If at any time, this was not the case, their work would stop as it would be clear that they no longer had God's backing.

I never have. I don't want to contribute to the billions of dollars that the church does not deserve.
