The reason I want to know this is because when I was younger my dentist was looney and wanted to do all sorts of messed up stuff to my mouth. He had me on Valium, and I overdosed on laughing gas once, which is why I never want it again.

How painful was the root canal done with just Novocaine?

Of course you can. I had 2 root canals done last week with novacaine only.

The same thing happen to me!!! My dentist was a nut case and they had to call the freaking paramedics because he gave me so much of that crap that I would not wake up and I had a HORRIFIC reaction to that stuff. I would not do that stuff again for ANY amount of money! I have had everything (except a root canal) done with only novacaine including 1 set of bonding, crowns, caps, filings, 3 sets of porcelin veneers, deep gum cleaning, laser gum surgery, 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted ... I could go on. Don't do it if you had a bad reaction to it. Laughing gas is just something that helps some people ... it's not like it helps with the pain. Use just the novacaine or ask them about I.V. sedation ("truth serum") ... that is what I had when they did my wisdom teeth. It was fine and not AT ALL LIKE THAT other crap. Good Luck.

Oh you had one of those crazy dentists as a kid too? Mine wanted to put the drill through my cheek if I moved and I was ready to jump out the 10th story window- and he didn't give me ANYTHING for pain back then--- no all they use is novocaine anymore. They may offer to give you a script for when you go home, but you probably can get away with just some Tylenol--- good luck-- it's not bad.

I had mine done with just novocaine and it hurt like a motherfvcker. Probably the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. I will NEVER do that again.

yeh its fine on novocaine i had one done the other week and i didnt feel a thing and im a 15 year old girl seriously it will not hurt

I had two root canals and its was virtually painless for me but people's tolerance of pain differs.

Yes you can just get the novocaine. I've done it a few times. don't be such a wuss, just do it.
