He probably should of but ultimately it was up to the girl. You have found someone else and its probably better that way.

Well, be competitive. See what he does well and make it part of your relationship, but do it better than him. Don't literally pick a fight with the guy but instead have more fun than him with your girlfriend, be a better lover, etc. ....then when you are so well known for your skills the girl finally comes running to try and break you and your g/f up to say yes (instead of no like before), turn her down. That way, socially, you beat both of them. If you want more details about how exactly to be a man and convince your ex she's the weaker one, not you, just read the hints in my other post replies about dating (except, of course, the basic ones given to much younger people).
And you might lose the dude as a friend either way...if you come across as the less powerful guy in the situation he may start making fun of you if you kick his, well....then he may stop being your friend thinking you are too mean for basically doing to him what he did to you. But either way, if he goes this far to ruin your friendship (considering you haven't "un-friended" him yet), he is not really your friend...friendships should exist regardless of what happens in relationships (unless, for example, you take his girl WHILE he is dating her or vice-versa).

Note, this is really just a way of fighting over insecurities but, let's face it, when you're younger the point is not to find the mate for the rest of your life so much as to get good and things so by the time you are older you are the best or so close to it no one will bother to mess with you.

If this guy is a good friend, talk to him straight up about it. Tell him how you feel about what he did - then let it go. A girl isn't worth ruining a friendship over.
