actually, not that bad but she is annoying the crap out of me. she's been home for five days from college and already i have the urge to run away. everything she says or does involves me being bombarded with "blah blah dead actor from the fifties this blah blah blah obscure eighties band that blah blah blah do you remember this video from this song blah blah..." or i'm having to chaueffer her around or listen to her torture a song that i've never heard of. it's okay up to a point, but after hour 5 i'm ready to bolt. I'm not very into entertainment past or present, so it's hard to find a common interest. i did express interest in an actor, but she ran it into the ground with her fangirldom. I've told her that it annoys me. Usually I get called a b****h or have my interests called dumb. i love her to death and i want to find a solution, but barring that, how much does a camper for a pickup truck run? I need a place to hide!

You must be joking. An lousy, annoying, irritating conversation with your sister can't be DRIVING YOU TO DESPAIR.
Be thankful that you have a sister to love and your issues are manageable. Have you had to deal with more difficult situations like death of a loved one, divorce, disasters like losing your home?
Anyway, if telling her you don't like her conversation style or topics doesn't work, you can find other ways of shutting her off without needing to find a place to hide. Maybe next time she starts to talk, you can put on some ear plugs to show her you are not interested. You can also keep your ears plugged with earphones and listen to music to shut her off.

welcome to the club bro. My sister's just started her break too and I'M starting to break as a result.

they're lovely (younger sisters) but ONLY in small doses, there should be a prescription for how much you can take of them.

things can only get worse, but eventually school or something will put you out of your misery by accepting her back into the normal grind of homework & sports & other avenues to divert her energy, then you will be able to Rest In Peace.

I look forward to that too. We should start up a union and call up a strike, or a swop-around when things get tough withour own beloved sibs!

it's nice to know that this type of thing happens everywhere (i'm in UK) & it's not just me.

¦'¬D all the best!

Go in your room and shut the door. Lock it. When when she comes to the door tell her your busy. Or go to a friends house for a few hours a day. HIDE! Give yourself some space. 5 hours is enough.

Tell her your true feeling - tell her you love her, but you grow out of the old junk. You have different taste now. If she labels it as being dumb - it doesn't make it so. It only means she's someone who likes to label people because they have different opinions. Let her know that you need your alone time.

Good luck!

i can understand that :) i have two younger sisters whose conversations differ from mine so that most of the time i feel left out. and i'm definitely close to them... i tolerated, we quarreled, now we've compromised but it's still no more the same as it was when we were young... people grow up; people change--it's sad but true... i'll continue to tolerate because in a few years i'll be engaged and married... but i'll still have reunions with them :)

take heart. tell her how you feel--both of your may end up quarreling, but it will strengthen your bond in the end. welcome to "grown-up-sisters-club" sometimes i wish for my two little sisters of last time when we did everything together and shared every little secret. but... life goes on, even closest sisters change, but the bond will be there forever... keep that bond... gd luck :p

Live with it and love her. When she graduates from college, she will be gone and surprisingly you will not be a part of her life very much anymore. She'll love you to death too, but from a distance and believe it or not - you will miss her.
