Well it depends on what kind of relationship you have, but since you say its just as close friends, with a 15 dollar gift card i think you should be fine, its not enough to make him feel bad but something that should make him feel special....

Sadly, he might have a cashflow problem.....I myself am hoping to give New Years gifts..to play catch up. When you give a gift (which is the JOY part) most people feel Obligated to Give back...so they show they care too...but sometimes the money tree is empty or we're out of the "right" ideas. I'd Take that Starbucks Gift Card & go out together for a Chat and Say Merry Christmas....here's a Latte on me!!!! It's fun friend time & less stress gift giving.....kinda sneaky. If there is anything left over....Say here you take it....

No but if they cannot afford or are nervous about what they should get you..than it is a way out for them..but as for me ..I send the gifts anyway..
