Can I just use component input? What about composite input? What is the difference between component and composite input? what about S-video?
Just bought a Samsung DLP tv, I need to figure out what cable do I need to buy. Thanks.

It is the ideal setup to get the best quality possible. I will list from best to worst quality.

1. HDMI - digital, HD capable
2. DVI - digital, HD capable
3. VGA - analog, HD capable
4. Component - analog, HD capable
5. S-video - analog, only 480i*
6. Composite - analog, only 480i*

If your DLP TV and your DVD player has HDMI, then by all means, go for it. Most DVD players only have component, so you may be stuck with component, which isn't all that bad.

* For the hardcore videophiles, I know by definition 480i is only for component and s-video/composite are NTSC and PAL. The general public identify better with video resolution than NTSC, PAL and SECAM.

Depends on your DVD- if it is a true digital player it will have an HDMI connection. I believe this is the preferred connection so you get both digital video and audio to your TV through the one cable instead of the multiple cables needed for the others that you mentioned. That is the selling point of HDMI - one cable instead of many!

Are you recieving DirecTV and Comcast on the same television? Are you making use of two seperate recievers? what's going contained in the cable card slot? right it is what i'd do: some thing that shows video connect it on your television by skill of HDMI cable. Take those self same elements plus some thing that performs audio in effortless words and connect it on your reciever by skill of optical audio cable. That way you get the video on your television and your audio out of your reciever from all elements.
