I have heard lots of crazy things from people in my office (who aren't Mormon), but I want the real story. What do Mormons believe happens after you die?

I once heard a quote from the prophet and president of our Church, Gordon B. Hinckley, that after we die life continues much like it is here. That is to say, I believe our spirits or the essence and personality of what we are keeps living. There are clothes and buildings like schools and houses in the spirit world, and some people may have more details to share if they have had near-death experiences. My father had one about 2 years ago, but we haven't heard too many details from him. Your spirit looks like you, and apparently you look like you did in the prime of life, say in your 20s or 30s. I believe we continue to keep learning and growing and developing talents. All the things we love here on earth also exist in the spirit world - if it is something that helps to make us better people and glorify God - anything creative, or musical, or artistic, or useful to others. At some point in time, after the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, all of the spirits of those who have ever existed in the world will pass through the Resurrection process. That means they will receive their physical bodies again, so that spirit and physical flesh will be combined again. Only this time the body will not be subject to all of the illnesses and corruption we see on earth now. We believe that God has a place in mind for all of His children. There are different classes of spirits and different levels in heaven. Our job is to learn what God's will is for us and then work on that. We believe that those who make use of Jesus Christ's Atonement and obey God's commandments will receive the gift of eternal life - that is, they can return to God's presence and live in the Kingdom of God, or the celestial level. There is also a terrestial and telestial level. You can read more about that in the New Testament and the Doctrine & Covenants, or there are other books out there. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

I ditto what Cookie and Pm have said...
If you want to know about the different 'levels' or degrees of heaven (Celestial, Terrestrial, Telestial) that we believe in, go to LDS.org and read in the Doctrine & Covenants, section 76. Joseph saw a vision of the kingdoms and described the inhabitants.
We also believe when you die, your spirit goes to either "paradise" or "prison" depending on your righteousness here. That is where the spirits in "prison" can be taught and receive the gospel...since we believe all who ever lived must have the chance to either accept or reject it. That is why we do temple ordinances in proxy for the dead. So that if they do accept the gospel after this life, the saving ordinances are performed for them.
The spritis await where they are until I think the millenium, judgement and final exaltation.

Where do we go after we die?

Death is not the end. Death is really a beginning—another step forward in Heavenly Father’s plan for His children.
Someday, like everyone else, your life on Earth will end and your physical body will die. But your spirit will not die. At the time of physical death, your spirit will go to the spirit world, where you will continue to learn and progress.

Death is a necessary step in your progression, just as your birth was. Sometime after your death, your spirit and your body will be reunited—never to be separated again. This is called resurrection, and it was made possible by the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Ok you Got me I am LDS what happens after you die .
"Latter-day Saints believe that life continues after the death of the mortal body and that death is but a separation of the physical body and the spirit. That they will be reunited but in a perfected state. Like if you were lame you will not be lame in heaven.
