Whether you invite him home or not is a tough one, but social support will be critical to his recovery. His treatment is not going to be an easy one, but with the proper encouragement and support, and of course dedication, he can get through it.

If I were a parent of a guy in his spot, I believe I would invite him home. That being said, keep in mind that I'm 27 and have no kids. If he does come live with you, I believe it would be important to make sure your boyfriend doesn't make things uncomfortable for him. You wouldn't want to engender resentment or animosity between them. If he does live you with, you may want to lay some ground rules (1. He needs to hold some form of employment. 2. He needs to be actively seeking therapy...)

I would recommend consulting with a substance-abuse therapist before making your deicison. I wish you and him the best of luck.

Of course. Addiction is very common, and it is treatable.

First, your son will need medical detox and some form of treatment. Then he should get involved in an addiction support group such as NA.

For yourself, get to a Nar-Anon or Al-Anon meeting as soon as possible.

This is a huge issue, and while your boyfriend may not have the right motive for telling you not to help, that's probably the best advice. Refer your son to an inpatient program and go on with your life. He's no baby!

if that is honestly all he is taking then its not really that bad and you should help him. HE IS YOUR SON. if you are apprehensive then just make it very very clear if he tries to walk all over u then forget it.. help him get into a drug program.

its not that bad but could and will get worse if no action is taken now.
