season? It says in Wikipedia that it's a secular non-religious thing. So why does it have to be during the Christmas season unless the one who started it had an atheist agenda?

I know people are going to hate me for saying this. But in my mind and those of most of the people that I know, Kwanzaa is just a made up Holiday. I acknowledge Hanukkah and Christmas, even Yule if you will, at this time of year. Happy Holidays is only those 2 or 3. I think that the founder of Kwanzaa took some ideas from the Jews with the Menorah and that doesn't seem right to me. But it is just all made up, so it means nothing.

The person who started it was a minister. It was not meant to detract from good ol' white Christmas, but to teach African- Americans more about their heritage to enable pride and feelings of self-respect .The celebration begins the day AFTER Christmas and ends on January 1st. So much for an atheist agenda. Besides, the person who may or may not have been Christ was not born in December. The emperor Constantine set up the birth as December 25 in order to detract from non-Christian winter solstice celebrations. You can check those facts out in Wikipedia.

i could undertaking to declare that greater blacks rejoice Christmas than Kwanzaa, althought some are actually celebrating the two. Kwanzaa remains a reasonably new social gathering and black have an prolonged background of Christianity (and yule) right here interior the U. S.. With each and every of the burden that Christmas consists of, i do no longer see the different holiday overtaking it, inclusive of Kwanzaa. are you able to think of a newborn staring at each and every person else get Christmas presants and that they get a bowl of fruit on the 2d or 0.33 day of Kwanzaa?

no, it is one of many ploys by companies to make more money. sort of like sweetest day & valentines day.... and what Christmas has been turned into....

kwanzaa is a celebration invented in America to celebrate African American's history. not like there isn't national Black History Month as well...

it is all a ploy-- all holidays are ploys by companies to make money off everyone...

you shouldn't take everything for fact that you read on wikipedia anyhow.... it is not necessarily factual information, dear....

Well I belong to a black church that recognizes both Christmas and Kwanzaa. Christmas is religious and Kwanzaa is a heritage kind of celebration.

Ron Karenga was psychotic and even he himself said people were suckers for celebrating it. If you were really in touch with your black roots then you would know Kwanzaa is a phony holiday with no authentic black or African roots. If we're going to celebrate a real black holiday, let's celebrate the Juneteenth. At this time of year, I think celebrating the birth of our Savior is good enough. Christianity- now THAT'S African-American culture. Hallelujah!

I think the one who started it just wanted a holiday that was uniquely African American. It has elements of Christmas, Hannukah, and African traditions.

I heard that too> some people wan't to "downgrade" the effect of christmas by adding other "holidays"> they want to make america a "pluralistic" society where diversity is rich> sadly, we see the effects already, "happy holidays" "seasons greetings" etc.

Well, it is not a religious holiday, so it must have a "human" reason and benefit for being invented.
