I opened up my letters in my files that are stored in "my document" I clicked on a file opened up a letter I had written a year ago but yet had today's date on it. How did that happen when I saved with the org. date on? And how can I get the org. date back on it. ??

very simple. you might have mentioned the date using the header and footer option. so that will get automatically updated when ever you open it.

to get the original date right click on the particular file and go to properties. there you will have two dates modified date and created date. so created date is the one you need to consider as the original date. hope it was helpful

Depends on what program you are using, but MS-Word by default automatically updates a number of auto-fields whenever you open it (e.g. any inserted "date" fields) and it sometimes will update the file if you do a print-preview or print it because the act of printing (or attempting to) causes MS-Word to rejig the page margins, etc... based on the current printer driver.

I think there are utilities on the 'net that let you muck with the file modification date. Alternatively, you can revert the file from a proper backup system. I found one with a simple search for "xp change modification date" (see link below).

It depends on how you put in the date. Did you use an insert date or did you type it in yourself?

If you used insert date, it may automatically update the date. Delete the date and type in the original date manually.

If you typed it in yourself, I have no idea, just change the date back to what it was.
