i didn't neuter my oldest dog and he never humped things. but i think even neutered dogs may hump things. but that's not the reason why you should neuter your dog. dogs that are neutered are usually healthier. if your dog ends up being a humper even after being neutered, you can train him to stop.

Most dogs do hump, some more than others. Neutering or spaying may or may not lessen how much your dog does it. Some say dogs do it because they are excited. Others say it is a sign of trying to establish dominance. Maybe it is both. No one really knows for sure why dogs do it but they can be trained not to. Get a squirt water bottle and squirt your dog and say NO when he does it. If he isn't excessive about it and does it on occasion when greeting another dog, no big deal but if a dog does it alot or starts trying to hump people or jumps on dogs at a park it is just plain bad manners and you can stop it.
Train the dog. Same for children. If they were left to "nature" and didn't have training, they would still be picking their noses and eating their boogers.

Humping isn't always caused by sexual urges in animals. It's also a way of showing dominance over another animal. Because of this, neutering is no gaurantee that he won't hump anyone or anything. On the other hand not neutering him won't make him hump things, but you should have him neutered anyway. It's one of the best things you can do for your dog's overall health.

Unfortunately, there is a very high probability. He might also:
-spray urine on things in an effort to mark his territory
-try to either dig under fences or jump over them
-try to escape out the front or back door,
-has a higher chance of being hit by a car
-much higher chance of prostate and testicular cancer
-can become aggressive toward you, your family and other pets
None of these are for sure because no dog is the same. Neutering is always recommended but I would seriously talk over your reasons for not wanting to neuter with your vet. They should listen to you and "help" you make a decision, not force one on you.
Good luck!

He'll probably hump things whether or not he's neutered. Humping isn't usually a sexual thing, it's how one dog shows another that SHE is top dog (females do it too). He won't, however, get testicular cancer or create unwanted puppies if he IS neutered.

Not for sure, but they are much more likely to if not neutered.

There are numerous benefits to neutering, even if you discount the benefit of avoiding unwanted litters. They include the following:

Eliminates annoying sexual habits such as mounting behavior or lifting his leg to "mark" his territory both outdoors and in the house.

Eliminates roaming in search of females. If allowed to run loose, he may fight with other males, be injured by automobiles, or run away. If confined, he may become hyperactive or aggressive.

Reduces the chance of developing infections. Neutering also reduces prostate and testicular cancer. These are all problems of older unaltered males.

Reduces the chance of your dog later biting or being aggressive towards other dogs and humans. Statistics show that most dog bites are inflicted by unaltered males.

Less roaming behavior means less external and internal parasite infestations.

ABSOLUTELY!! MY vet recommends neutering before they are 6 months old so the humping doesn't ingrain itself as a habitual behavior even after the neutering.

well after reading all these answers here about males humping....I have had 6 females...spayed and they all tried to "hump' at some point . It is not a sexual thing ..just a part of being a dog...territory, dominance whatever just say no. and they stop.

humping is a show of dominance by an insecure dog who wants to prove he or she is alpha. If you let it hump you, than you are literally it's bi tch. If your puppy isn't sure of its position in your pack it will attempt to dominate in some way. It has nothing to do with whether you get it "fixed" or not. Male dogs only mount females in estrus (heat) for sex. If you are not a bi tch in estrus the dog is mounting you to put you in your place. Go take puppy classes, they are super cheap at petsmart.
