The obvious answer is to eat. Don't skip any meals. don't underestimate the power of a snack. Have a drink (or 2) before going to sleep. If after you gain some weight you go back to your usual diet, you will lose the weight. You have to keep the weight on for a while before your body works to maintain it.
Oprah says the best way to gain weight is to eat a lot than stop eating much for a few days and then eat a lot again. When you stop eating your metabolism slows down in order to maintain the weight. That is your body's way of not depleting the food stored in your body so you don't starve. When you start eating a lot again while your metabolism is still slow, you gain weight.
In other words, you trick your body into thinking you are starving. Your body slows down your metabolism, using less stored fat, than you eat a lot while your body is still thinking that you are starving- You gain weight.

well 38 kg is about 83.6 lbs.. and it depends how tall you are.. if you are 4 feet than that's okay, but if you are 5 foot 2 inches then you are considered anorexic. according to the BMI calculations you are at 15.4 if you are 5'2"-- and you are underweight by about 15 lbs or 6.8 kg.. your ideal weight at 5'2" is to be 99 lbs/45 kg to 121lbs/55kg...

what i suggest that you do is to exercise to build muscles== muscles weigh more than fat== do weight lifting and some running to excercise your heart.. but build muscles.. get toned.. make sure that you eat enough of all of the nutrients that you will need.... when you work out, you tend to get hungry more often.. eat protein bars between meals...

if that doesn't work then i would see a nutritionist to see why you cannot gain weight... your metabolism may be faster than a regular person...

good luck!

I have the same problem you have. I'm almost 27 years old and my weight is 48 kg. I gained 16 kg when I got pregnant but lost it all after 2 months. I would love to gain some weight as well, but nothing I tried worked. If you get some advice please let me know. If you want we can become "gaining weight" e-mail buddies!

To gain weight, you must place great emphasis on your diet. It doesn't mean you must eat a lot of food (especially not junk food). In order to gain weight you must consistently follow a solid weight gain diet (A diet in which total calorie intake exceeds the body's energy demands. The extra calorie that intake is used to build tissue, whether is fat tissue or muscle tissue is also depending on what you eat).

A weight gain diet designed for muscle growth call for more protein than the normal diet, that's why you have to carefully choose your food which are high in protein, low in carbs and saturated fats.

By the way, just like other answers, you need to know what is your height then you can know your appropriate weight you should aim. After you reach your suitable weight, the rest you need to do is to maintain it. ^_^

Hope this information helps you a lot. By the way, I know a product that is suitable for your weight gain diet. It's high in protein, low in saturated fats, and is easy to drink too. If you interested, you can always contact me by my e-mail, chanyeevon@yahoo.com.

i have a friend with the same problem, what he did was he bought some weight gain powder. I remember it being about £20 per tub from Holland and barratts. Mixed it with milk and drunk it a few times a day. The powder was made of natural stuff though.

I'm interested that you tell us your age, but not your height, which is far more important than age when deciding what weight you should be!.
Assuming that you already eat sensibly, I'd suggest moderate exercise to build some muscles, but maybe you should visit a doctor to find out if your digestive system is functioning correctly.

Your weight depends on your height. Suppose you are 1m 70, you should weigh about 60 kg, have your meal on time and make sure that you have a balanced diet composed of fruits, vegetable, a portion of meat, and lots of liquid.

I do not know if your weight is a good weight for you or not as you do not say if you are overweight or underweight.

However, if you want to increase your weight add more carbohydrates to your daily food intake.

High carbohydrate foods are: potatoes, pasta, bread, certain fruits and fruit juices of all kinds, chips, pretzels, soda pop, bakery, cookies, etc.
