There are many ways to go about doing it.

The best way is debateable but I find a spot of vix beneath the nose really clears the nasal passage. You can also get a vix nasal decongestor.

Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated keeps your postnasal mucus thin and easier to swallow.

Use a humidifier. Dry air thickens and dries mucus in your nose and throat.

Try saline sprays or rinses. Saltwater rinses and saline sprays thin your mucus and get rid of irritants. You can buy saline nasal sprays in most drugstores. Or you can make your own. Dissolve about 1/4 teaspoon salt in 2 cups of warm distilled water. Use a suction bulb to place the solution in your nose or put some of the warm salt water in the cup of your hand, and then sniff it up, one nostril at a time.
This won't burn, trust me.

Take a hot shower about 1 hour after you have taken 50 mg of diphenhydramine orally.
You will fall asleep and your stuffy nose will be gone.

I get those bread rite strips you buy in the pharmacy, they really work, I bread and sleep great, I tried the cheeper ones, they do not work, get the name brand, lots of times you can find a 30 day box on sale shop around. Do not get the clear ones for sensitive noses, they fall off, all the brown ones stay on all night and all day.

If you can make it out to the store, find the No-Ad eucalyptus body wash. It's quite potent, but taking a shower with it will help clear up your nose.

With thumb and first finger massage between eyes from top of bridge down for about one inch. You will feel relief immediately.

Eat something spicy. An aromatic spice, onion or jalapeno will cause the nasal passage to clear ASAP.
