I have family that still celebrate Christmas, but it seems like they don't beleive in Christ. I wonder if they still think about the purpose of Christmas.

Maybe you can help them think about the real meaning of Christmas this year. We just got back from seeing the Nativity movie. It is excellent and gives a real down to earth picture of what life was like at the birth of Jesus. Take your family to see the movie as a gift. It may open their eyes to the Truth! You will be blessed by the movie too. It made my whole week and now I'm ready to celebrate Christmas!!!

I would like to reply even though I am Jewish. I admire and respect Jesus for his teaching which are still relevant today Christmas is a time when people seems a bit friendlier and happier. As Jews it means helping our less fortunate citizens and we have gone to a homeless shelter for l8 years and given presents to the children. We also cook and serve food to these less fortunate so as the good people who work there can enjoys the blessings of the holiday with their families.

Jesus Christ wasn't born on Christmas. Christmas was originally not a Christian/Catholic holiday, it was a pagan holiday (Yule) as are most holidays the Christians stole.

That said, what's the difference? There are plenty of valid reasons for non-religions people to celebrate the Christmas holiday, from financial gain for business owners, to peace on earth & goodwill towards men for non-theists. Stop assuming the entire world sees through Christian glasses.

Christmas is a fun time of the year... It's a terrific secular event... Please, don't spoil it with that "true meaning crap."

For those of us who like it because our little kids enjoy the excitement of Santa Clause and believe in flying reindeer... and because the kids (and the adults) get excited about getting a bunch of gifts, there just isn't a better tine of the year.

Let the kids believe a good fairy tale until they reach the age of reason.... by six or seven they'll see the truth. Christ, look at the dung pile you believe - and you've reached the age of an adult - you should recognize a pile of Shineola when you see it.

The winter soltice was origanly a pagan holiday that was stolen away by the catholic church. in an atempt to stop that celibration. Christmas has never had any true purpose other than an attempt to further remove man from his natural conection to the world.

Christmas means something different to everyone in a family. For me (Wiccan), it's the return of the sun at Solstice and a day of yummy food and presents. For my brother (Atheist), it's just a day to eat and get presents. For our sister (Christian), it's a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus and make a mandatory church appearance. For our other brother (Atheist) it's a day to work for triple time pay.

It is just a good time to hang with your family. I like Christmas even though I think the reason behind it is hog wash. It is so secular anymore that you would hardly notice the difference between our celebration and a Christian one. We just leave religion out.

I don't believe in your Jesus and I still celebrate Christmas. To me, it is a time for family, friends, love, good food and gifts. :) Just a time to be happy. It's only religious if you make it out to be.

They probably just think of Christmas as Thanksgiving with gifts. A good time to get together or keep in touch with friends and family.
