In a sense eveyone is on the path, everyone who has a sense that things just aren't quite right, everyone who is pursuing happiness. Turning to the teachings of Buddha to find an end to suffering is a second step on the path.

Start by reading some good Buddhist books, and by learning to meditate. Start with just noticing your breath.
A good intro to Buddhism is "What the Buddha Taught" by Rahula.
